Omigosh!!
THREE YEARS AGO, I published my FIRST post on Beyond Buckskin! (You can read it here).
I can't believe it. So much has happened in the past 3 years. I've earned a PhD, I've taught hundreds of students, I've written articles, I've presented at museums, I've traveled and traveled and traveled. I've lost friends (like, lost-lost, as in, via the afterlife), I've gained friends, I've moved at least 6 times, I've met incredible amazing artists, I've seen artists grow and blow minds, I've been humbled, I've been abused (by an institution, not a man, I'd hurt that man), I've become an entrepreneur, I've moved back home.
I remember, in 2009, when I launched Beyond Buckskin, I was in the final stretch of my dissertation writing, and I wanted to find a way to make my research more accessible, I wanted people to read what I was discovering about this cool and exciting, and IMPORTANT, world of Native American fashion, design, art, and STYLE.
And here I am now, still thinking about how I can reach more people: to educate those who know nothing about contemporary Native clothing designers, and to expand the minds of those who already know a lot about Native design and style.
And now I'm sitting, perched on my laptop, dreaming about the future, thinking about the present, and reflecting on the past.
I wonder where I'll be in another three years?
