It's that time of year again! Time to Navajo-up for the 66th Annual Navajo Nation Fair. Held every year in the nation's capital, Window Rock, Arizona, the Fair lasts an entire week, and brings with it a rodeo, a powwow, a parade, an arts exhibition, a concert, and one very cool Miss Navajo Nation competition.
One year ago, I wrote a blog post about the history of the Miss Navajo competition.
I wrote about it because of all the cool fashion that these ladies wear, but also because this isn't your average 'beauty contest.' The Miss Navajo competition consists of criteria that you don't get to see in your typical 'Miss America-style beauty show', and the contestants are judged on their cultural knowledge and Navajo language skills.
It will be exciting to see who takes the 'crown' this year. So stay tuned for future posts about this important event, and click here to read last year's post.
